Substitute Teacher (2026/27 School Year) Job Description Purpose
The Substitute Teacher creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students in the absence of the regular Instructor. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Substitute Teacher must work closely with other staff and the administration of the District.

SalaryDaily Rate $185.00 per day. Long-term rate of $225 begins after 10 consecutive days in the same assignment.
Required Qualifications- Must hold a valid Kansas Teaching License, Kansas Standard Substitute Teaching License, or Kansas Emergency Substitute Teaching License
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)
- Basic computer skills
- Articulate and professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual educational needs of students
- Ability to ensure all activities conform to District guidelines
- Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community
- Ability to react to change in an instructional and productive manner, and handle other tasks as assigned
- Ability to work with technology/computer systems
- Ability to supervise, direct, and motivate students
- Ability to model commitment and dedication to work
- Ability to work independently and without supervision, and complete work in an efficient manner
- Ability to implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor
- Ability to motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback
- Ability to demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences
- Ability to set high expectations for student achievement and behavior
- Ability to establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management
- Ability to observe and follow all school district policies during all activities
- Ability to keep student information and records confidential
- Ability to perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other Administrative Staff
- Sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead
- Ability to see and read a computer screen and/or printed materials
- Hear and understand English at normal classroom levels both indoors, outdoors, and on the telephone
- Speak in an audible tone so that others may clearly understand in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone
- Physically able to independently lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
