Position: Behavior Consultant - Special Education Day School Setting

Behavioral Support Specialist

Purpose:

To provide diagnostic, remedial and consultative services for students who have been identified for tiered instruction and/or receive special education services in the area of behavior.

Reports To:

Director of Special Education

Supervises: NA

Salary:
Based on Negotiated Agreement Salary Schedule

License

Required:

KSDE License Endorsement or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Current Kansas State Teaching Licensure with Special Education endorsement appropriate to the assignment or BCBA Certification on file in the Central Office.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide consultation services in the area of behavior to all district sites and programs.
  • Assist teams to develop the capacity to support students with behavioral instruction and support.
  • Consult with staff regarding programming for students in the area of behavior who have been identified to receive tiered instruction and/or special education services.
  • Participate and assist in assessment of student needs.
  • Complete and present written evaluation reports as a part of an IEP team.
  • Participate in the determination, development, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral, instructional, and/or curricular management for the purpose of aiding identified students.
  • Conduct observations in a variety of settings for the purpose of aiding in the identification as well as the development of programming and instructional strategies.
  • Develop and implement professional development opportunities for the purpose of providing needed and/or required training for staff.
  • Prepare and maintains a variety of documents, records, reports, and written materials for the purpose of communicating information to parents and staff, providing written support, developing recommendations and/or conveying information, and complying with state, federal, and district requirements.
  • Serve as a consultant to staff at all district sites and programs for the purpose of providing a resource of understanding in supporting students in the area of behavior.
  • Assist teams in the development of a Functional Behavior Analysis and Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Assist staff in the training of Para-Educators.
  • Collaborate and assist with teams in the compilation, summarization, and analyzation of data and data collection procedures.
  • Facilitate the transition of students from pre-school to elementary, elementary to middle school, and from middle school to high school. Facilitate the development of a transition timeline regarding logistical issues at schools receiving students with current teachers and receiving teachers.
  • Consult with staff to evaluate program effectiveness for the purpose of improving assessment procedures, programs and services.

Physical Requirements /

Environmental Conditions:

  • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without visual aids.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone.
  • Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
  • Ability to travel within the district.
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.
  • Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

  • Adheres to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and Emergency Safety Interventions (ESI).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or other Administrative Staff.
