Job DescriptionPurpose: School Psychologists promote the student’s sense of self, treat or assist in treating any psychological or mental health problems, and evaluate students’ needs, abilities, and skills. They provide a full range of school psychological services to children ages 0‑21 including screening and assessment, designing remedial education programs, and providing individual or group counseling with school staff, parents, and outside agencies as appropriate.
They identify home, school, and community factors in the life of an exceptional student that may impact his or her education, and collaborate with family, school, and community agencies to enable a student to receive maximum benefit from his or her educational program.
- Graduate from a NCATE approved program in School Psychology
- A valid license issued by the Kansas State Department of Education in School Psychology
- Experience in direct services to children, adolescents, and families in a school setting preferred
- Assess an individual child’s needs, limitations, and potential, using observation, review of school records, and consultation with parents and school personnel.
- Provide written reports of assessment for student evaluations.
- Maintain appropriate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information, reevaluate as appropriate to determine extent of progress and effectiveness of therapy.
- Perform diagnostic assessment on students with special needs.
- Collaborate with building and support staff throughout the district to meet the needs of students.
- Participate and contribute as an IEP team member with functional behavioral assessments, behavior intervention plans and/or in the manifestation determination process.
- Collaborate with outside agencies, parents and teachers as needed to improve the students’ performance both in the classroom and at home.
- Provide group and direct individual lessons through a variety of methods up to and including classroom presentations, co‑teaching in a general education setting, and social skill development as needed.

- Frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Interact with staff and meet demands from multiple people or departments.
- Be a member of the Student Intervention Team or SIT.
- Identify resources to support student and families.
- Plan and present in‑service sessions on behavioral strategies and interventions.
- Research new intervention strategies and new assessment in the areas of instructional strategies, behavior management, behavior intervention plans, and emotional disabilities.
- Conduct home visits as needed.
- Maintain confidential records and adhere to all district, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
- Implement all procedures to meet compliance standards.
- Adhere to the ethical standards, codes of the profession, established rules and regulations, and laws governing special education programs.
