QualificationsTo qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Closing date: 02/18/2026. Time-In-Grade requirements apply to current Federal employees and former Federal employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act (VEOA) appointment.
GS-05 Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04. Examples include: following instructions about timeliness, communicating with staff on administrative concerns, and reviewing the appropriateness of administrative data.
Education:
4 years of college above high school in an accredited program. Transcripts required. Combination: education and experience may be combined to meet the requirement. Up to 60 semester hours (first 60 hours) may be credited toward specialized experience; one full academic year beyond the second year (30 semester hours) is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Transcripts required.
GS-06 Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05. Includes: ensuring timeliness and prioritization of administrative work, reviewing administrative data, validating claims for billing to ensure eligibility, and referring questionable coding for review. Interprets insurance policies and requirements for billing.
Education:
Generally not creditable above GS-5, with limited exceptions for directly related graduate education. Transcripts required. For more information, see the U.S. Office of Personnel Management General Schedule Qualification Standards: OPM standards.

- YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION. Validate claims for billing purposes, ensuring eligibility and referring questionable coding for review.
- Submit claims to third-party health insurance carriers with knowledge of Medicare coverage benefits.
- Interpret third-party insurance policies and requirements for billing.
- Take responsibility for Medicare reimbursable billing activities.
- Follow instructions about timeliness, objectives, and relative priorities for doing work.
- Handle conflicting goals, objectives, priorities, timelines, and deadlines.
- Exhibit flexibility in adapting to changing demands within specific timelines.
- Accept and complete work provided by a standardized control system such as batched work, caseload level, or other defined structure.
- Use a wide range of office software applications such as Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word.
- Compose correspondence on a situational basis.
- Process billings using ICD-10-CM, CPT/4, and HCPCS codes timely.
- Promotion Potential:
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. - Work Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 08:00am–04:30pm. Compressed/Flexible arrangements may be discussed to meet agency needs. Telework may be authorized; eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. This is not a fully virtual position. - Position Description/PD#:
