Position: GIS Technician I #26-4-2

Overview

GIS Technician I – Leavenworth County, Kansas. PAY LEVEL:
Level E ($24.03/hr to $26.01/hr).

Location:

Leavenworth County Courthouse. Exempt/Non-exempt:
Non-exempt. This position is open until filled.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the County Appraisers maps in compliance with KSA 79-1459, including interpreting property legal descriptions, plats, and surveys, and accurately drawing them on mylar maps.
  • Create and edit digital maps in geodatabases and shape files using ESRI Arc Map software. Add annotations and text to digital map layers for clarity and accuracy.
  • Link Excel spreadsheets derived from county Appraisers CAMA files to generate specific maps.
  • Digitize subdivisions, agricultural maps, and other relevant data using a digitizer table.
  • Create custom maps by delineating parcels with graphic tools or querying map layers in Arc Map using tools like Buffer.
  • Perform quality control (QC) on map layers using Arc Catalog and Arc View to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Create Arc Reader maps utilizing Arc Publisher software.
  • Manage aerial photos and vector layers through ArcSDE.
  • Perform data entry tasks within the Appraisers property records system.
  • Curate and maintain the Map Work Card archive for future reference.
  • Plot large-format paper maps from digital files for physical distribution.
Knowledge and Skills / Qualifications
  • Required prior to employment:
  • Knowledge of office policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques and equipment used with ESRI Arc Map software.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology concerning land descriptions.
  • Knowledge of land surveying sufficient to convert data for mapping.
  • Knowledge of property transaction records located in the County departments.
  • Knowledge of photogrammetry and georeferencing digital images.
  • Knowledge of data input and conversion capabilities to allow graphic and non-graphic data to be converted and linked using Excel, Access, and Arc Map.
  • Knowledge of graphic routines that calculate parcel areas and locate database records by graphic element.
  • Skill in performing complex map drafting and computing areas and closures from legal descriptions and maps using algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
