Maintenance Assistant – USD 207 Fort Leavenworth School District
Purpose: Assesses and conducts maintenance at all District schools and facilities, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. Supports the activities of District custodial and MEP contractors and maintains physical interiors, exteriors, and grounds to ensure standard operating excellence, safety, cleanliness, and aesthetic attractiveness.
Reports To: Assistant Director of Transportation & Maintenance
FLSA Status: Non‑exempt
Salary: USD 207 Classified Matrix Column E: $20.00 – $35.37 per hour, commensurate with experience
Required Qualifications- High school graduate, GED, or equivalent.
- 2–3 years of experience and/or training in facilities & maintenance.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system maintenance (including HVAC).
- Aptitude with basic software systems (Microsoft Office & Google Suites).
- Alternative qualifications acceptable to the Board.
- Ability to pass initial and random alcohol and controlled‑substance tests.
- Health and inoculation certificate on file in the District Office (after an offer).
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with required endorsements, or willingness to obtain a CDL.
- Associate’s degree in a related field.
- 5–7 years of experience and/or training in facilities and maintenance.
- Monitor maintenance programs for HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Conduct routine maintenance on the District’s equipment and vehicles.
- Inspect schools and facilities regarding custodial contracts.
- Inspect facilities and grounds for needed repair and maintenance.
- Provide support for school events requiring additional maintenance.
- Assist with summer maintenance and cleaning programs.
- Assist with grounds maintenance (playgrounds, parking, landscaping, fencing).
- Assist in determining when issues require outside contractors.
- Assist other personnel in emergencies as called upon.
- Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Regular sitting, talking, and hearing.
- Use hands and fingers.
- Good vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception).
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
- Work indoors and outdoors in all weather.
- Work in noisy, crowded environments.
- Work around dust, fumes, and odors.
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Enter data and use a computer screen.
- Manually lift, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
At‑will employment. Salary to be determined by the Board.
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
