Technical Field Operations Manager - Special Hazards

Reporting to the Vice President, IFP, this role combines technical leadership, people management, resource planning, and field operations oversight with involvement in project estimating and planning. You’ll lead a team of Field Technicians, serve as a senior technical resource for complex field challenges, and work closely with Project Management, Sales, and Engineering to ensure projects are accurately scoped, appropriately staffed, and successfully executed from installation through commissioning and closeout.

This position is classified as remote and can be located anywhere in the United States, with a preference for candidates located in Kansas, Indiana, Texas, or Arizona.

We think you’ll thrive if:
  • You’re an experienced fire protection professional who can confidently lead both people and technical execution.
  • You enjoy developing technicians, setting clear expectations, and building a team that operates with accountability and consistency.
  • You’re comfortable solving complex field problems and making sound decisions when conditions don’t go according to plan.
  • You can balance people, schedules, customer needs, project demands, and business priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • You understand that strong field execution starts before anyone arrives on site and can bring a practical field perspective to estimating, planning, and project handoffs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage Field Operations personnel, including workload prioritization, technical direction, performance expectations, coaching, development, and accountability.
  • Plan and allocate field resources across active projects in coordination with Project Management and Sales.
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, acceptance testing, and service activities to support safe, compliant, high-quality, and timely project execution.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation resource for complex fire suppression, fire alarm, installation, equipment, commissioning, and field issues.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis involving system failures, false discharges, deficiencies, and other complex technical conditions.
  • Provide technical direction to Field Technicians and subcontractors regarding installation challenges, design clarifications, testing, and commissioning requirements.
  • Build the technical capability of the Field Operations team through training, coaching, standardization, cross-training, and certification development.
  • Establish and improve field processes, tools, templates, documentation standards, and workflows that improve consistency, productivity, safety, quality, and customer experience.
  • Partner with Sales and Project Management during estimating and planning to review project requirements, plans, specifications, equipment needs, labor assumptions, and commissioning requirements.
  • Identify scope gaps, technical risks, site conditions, and execution challenges that could affect project cost, schedule, or successful delivery.
  • Assist with equipment takeoffs and technical inputs used to develop accurate project estimates and proposals.
  • Review field labor performance and project outcomes to identify lessons learned and continuously improve future scoping, estimating, and execution.
