Position Summary

Current opening:
One Full‑time position. Under the direction and supervision of the Patient Care Services Director, and in compliance with Federal, State regulations, and Powell Valley Healthcare (PVHC) policy and procedure, the manager manages the Inpatient Services Department to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of patient care. Management includes scheduling and staffing, budget oversight, staff payroll, developing and maintaining quality improvement program;

staff education and development to ensure patient safety, and that policy and procedures for best practices are followed. Accomplishes assigned responsibilities in an organized and efficient manner. Serves as the point person for the partner Department, Physician, patients, families and visitors. Demonstrates flexibility and adapts to changes caused by emergencies, schedule or staffing adjustments, procedural changes, or patient care needs.

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
  • Supervise daily operations of inpatient unit
  • Ensure exceptional patient‑centered care and responsiveness to patient concerns
  • Ensure adherence to clinical workflows and assist in continuous improvement of processes
  • Support staff with clinical decision‑making within scope; elevate concerns to nursing leadership or providers as needed
  • Promote a culture of safety, transparency, and continuous improvement
  • Conduct structured daily rounds on patients
  • Act as the primary advocate for the Swing Bed Program, promoting understanding of its value as a critical service line and major revenue contributor, as highlighted in organizational assessments
  • Foster a positive culture surrounding swing bed patients, addressing staff misconceptions, reducing resistance, and improving overall staff buy‑in
  • Assist Inpatient Nursing Director with survey readiness for observation, inpatient, and swing bed
  • Partner with the Director of Nursing and OB Manager on strategic initiatives, operational planning, and change management
  • Assesses the delivery of nursing care to include identification of the number and job class of personnel needed to provide patient care. Adjusts staffing and patient assignments appropriately
  • Interviews hires, and trains employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Works directly with new employees to see that the assigned orientation plan is followed
  • Completes employee evaluations in a timely manner
  • Provides ongoing development for front line staff
  • Partner with OB Manager to complete unit schedule
  • Provides direct patient care as needed for shift coverage, using the nursing process
  • Maintains and develops competencies in all acute care Inpatient Services areas to act as a resource to staff, physicians and other members of the caregiver team
  • Participates in the development of an overall annual budget for units of responsibility. Responsible for inventory and budget control needs of the units on a daily basis to include management of productive and non‑productive FTE’s
  • Corroborates with H.I.M to ensure appropriate documentation to support patient charges
