Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.
This includes executing licensed provider orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting in examinations and treatment of patients.
Applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care, treatment, and referrals of patients.
Performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure.
Attends sick call with the physician to see patients, prepares a list of patients to be examined, and prepares the examining room and equipment.
Operates medication dispensing, documents as required, and communicates with providers for medication and treatment orders during emergencies.
Examines and assesses new patients with illnesses or injuries.
Refers patients to emergency facilities as required by their condition.
Performs emergency procedures as needed and notifies the provider for treatment orders.
Assists in coordinating medical services provided by contract personnel.
Monitors inpatient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate.
Provides guidance, supervises, and monitors nursing care provided by nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.
Maintains a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, and outside provider agencies.
Utilizes established policies and procedures in decision-making while using sound independent judgment.
Evaluates the provision of medical services to avoid inappropriate use or duplication.
Maintains security and confidentiality of all medical records.
Assists in the review of medical files to ensure documentation of provided services.
Closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses.
Audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as required.
Complies with all applicable pharmacy laws regarding controlled substances.
Observes and records patient behavior.
Inspects the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband and securely stores or disposes of supplies.
Provides health counseling and health education on an individual or group basis.
Assists in preparing and maintaining narrative, statistical, summary, and operational records, reports, and logs.
Reads, analyzes, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures and governmental regulations.
Reviews and processes lawsuits and attends court hearings when necessary.
Facilitates NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation of the medical program by providing efficient and approved medical services.
Prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required, taking appropriate action during serious incidents and emergencies.
