Position: Tractor Operator (Gardening) NA-06

Summary

This position is located at the Fort Leavenworth Trails West Golf Course.

Duties
  • Operates heavy equipment to maintain multiple golf courses. Equipment used includes lawn mowers, tractors, fork lifts, aerators, verti‑cut machines, backhoes, front‑end loaders, dump trucks, and rollers.
  • Duties include mowing, pushing, pulling, piling, or loading materials such as sand, gravel, or earth to accomplish landscaping, filling, digging of ditches and holes, and hauling. Incumbent also clears brush, rocks, and removes tree stumps.
  • Adjusts attachments to the equipment for proper level, angles, or depth, according to the work to be done and the type of equipment used.
  • Applies fertilizer, sows seeds, and sods needed areas. Sprays or applies insecticides and herbicides, as directed. When required, waters different areas of golf course.
  • Performs necessary repair and maintenance work on equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one‑year probationary period may be required.
  • Successfully complete an employment verification (E‑Verify) check.
  • Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally controlled facilities.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of pre‑employment background checks in accordance with AR 215‑3, para. 2., including a medical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre‑employment physical and background check is required.
  • Requires frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be available to work day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts depending on the organization’s needs.
  • Must be willing to accept a flexible appointment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license while employed.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) as required by Army Regulation 600‑85. A negative drug test is required prior to appointment for a TDP. Incumbent will be subject to subsequent random drug tests as required.
Qualifications
  • Experience and training that furnish the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position consistent with accepted practices of the trade; including skill in operating vehicles of the type described in the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety regulations to determine when mechanical or operational problems indicate that vehicles are unsafe for operation.
  • Ability to use and maintain appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply instructions and other materials related to the job.
  • Ability to do the work of the position under normal supervision.
