Role Summary

We’re looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join our Infrastructure & Network team in Leawood, Kansas. This role is for someone who is hands‑on, comfortable owning complex environments, and able to work at both the architecture level and deep into packet‑level troubleshooting when needed. This is not a ticket‑driven operations role or a single‑vendor network. You’ll be expected to design, improve, and support enterprise and data‑center networks that run critical, always‑on systems in a regulated financial environment.

What

You’ll Be Doing
  • Act as a senior technical resource for routing, switching, and traffic flow across enterprise and data‑center networks.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues at all layers, including:
    • Packet capture and analysis (tcpdump, Wireshark)
    • Routing behavior, convergence issues, MTU/MSS problems, asymmetric traffic flows
    • Load balancer and firewall interactions
  • Build and operate networks using a combination of technologies, including:
    • Cisco and F5 as key platforms
    • Fortinet firewalls
    • Dell and HPE networking
    • Open‑source and software‑based networking components where appropriate
  • Own and operate core protocols such as:
    • BGP
    • EIGRP
    • Spanning Tree (RSTP / MST)
    • VLANs, VRFs, ECMP, and related routing and segmentation concepts
  • Participate directly in:
    • Data center projects and migrations
    • Hardware installs, replacements, and remediation
    • Planned maintenance windows and major changes
  • Travel domestically and internationally (roughly 4–6 weeks per year
    ) to support:
    • Data center work
    • On‑site troubleshooting
    • Major infrastructure and network initiatives
  • Be involved in major incident response and escalations when required.
  • Help define and document network standards, reference architectures, and operational practices.
  • Mentor other engineers through design reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and hands‑on work.
Automation, Tooling, and AI

We use modern tooling to reduce repetitive work and speed up analysis. In this role, that includes:

  • Using automation and AI‑assisted tools to:
    • Accelerate troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis
    • Review and validate configuration changes
    • Sanity‑check designs and architecture decisions
  • Applying engineering judgment to validate results — tools assist, but ownership and thinking still matter.
Required Experience
  • Strong, hands‑on background in enterprise and data‑center networking
, with a focus on fundamentals and network behavior
    , not just vendor syntax.
  • Deep understanding of routing and switching concepts
    .
  • Practical experience with:
    • BGP
    • EIGRP
    • Spanning Tree
    • Network segmentation and traffic isolation
  • Experience operating multi‑vendor environments
, including (but not limited to):
    • Cisco
    • F5
    • Fortinet
    • Dell
    • HPE
    • Open‑source networking technologies
  • Proven ability to perform low‑level packet capture and protocol analysis to diagnose real production issues.
  • Solid understanding of:
    • TCP/IP behavior
    • Load balancing concepts
    • Firewalls, NAT, and asymmetric routing
  • Experience supporting high‑availability or regulated environments strongly preferred.
What We’re Looking For
  • Vendor‑agnostic by mindset — able to reason about how networks behave rather than relying on one vendor’s patterns or tooling.
  • Comfortable working across different hardware platforms, operating systems, and vendors without needing vendor‑by‑vendor retraining.
  • Clear communicator during incidents, changes, and design reviews.
  • Willing to be hands‑on with hardware, configs, and live environments.
  • Candidates who are only comfortable in Cisco‑only environments or rely heavily on vendor‑specific playbooks are unlikely to be…
