- Interview patients, obtain history, and document information in patient charts.
- Explain procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation and alleviate apprehension; monitor comfort and safety needs.
- Prepare patients for physical exams and procedures, including patient identification, consent verification, vital signs, pain and anxiety assessment, and readiness for sedation as ordered by a physician.
- Administer medications as directed by the physician and document all controlled substances appropriately.
- Prepare the surgical site, place sterile drapes, and ensure proper conditions for sterile technique.
- Assist clinicians during examinations and surgeries; hand instruments and materials to the physician as directed.
- Set up examination rooms and surgical suites; assemble and use equipment as needed (e.g., electrocautery, dermabrader).
- Inspect sterile items, organize supplies, and maintain sterile fields.
- Dress wounds as instructed; draw up medications for sterile-field use in partnership with a provider.
- Monitor patient condition during and after procedures; observe and document significant changes or reactions; notify supervising clinician as needed.
- Maintain patient education plans, including verbal instructions and written materials for patients and families.
- Remain with the patient in the OR until recovery and discharge guidelines are met, following applicable policies.
- Accurately record all pertinent information in patient charts in a timely manner.
- Respond to emergencies per nursing standards, policies, and procedures; know locations of equipment and supplies.
- Maintain and sterilize examination and surgical suites; clean rooms after each patient; inventory and restock supplies as needed.
- Adhere to OSHA regulations and universal precautions, including waste and sharps disposal; uphold safety policies and high-quality service standards.
- Perform other duties as necessary or in the best interest of the organization.
- Experience Requirements:
- One (1) year of dermatology experience, preferred
- One (1) year of surgical procedures experience, preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to operate complex surgical equipment and instruments.
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and sterile technique; detail oriented and professional.
- Strong management and organizational skills to support leadership of the function.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with clear grammar and spelling.
- Interpersonal skills to support customer service and teamwork; effective English communication (verbal and written).
- Math/analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solving.
- Basic to intermediate computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Specialized knowledge of systems relevant to the job function; knowledge of state and federal regulations, including HIPAA guidelines.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
