Job Purpose:
- The Operating Room Charge Nurse at KC Ortho Group is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the orthopedic operating suites, ensuring efficient scheduling and room assignments. This role serves as the primary clinical resource and on-floor supervisor for the OR team, including RNs, surgical technologists, and support staff, to deliver exceptional patient care and maintain high standards of surgical practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily OR scheduling and room assignments to maximize efficiency across all four orthopedic suites.
- Serve as the primary clinical resource and on-floor supervisor for RN, surgical technologist, and OR support staff throughout the shift.
- Ensure compliance with AORN perioperative guidelines, APIC and AAMI standards, Joint Commission or AAAHC accreditation requirements, and applicable state ASC regulations.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the OR team, fostering a collaborative and professional environment.
- Assist with supply management, inventory oversight, and identification of cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of AORN perioperative nursing standards, surgical asepsis, and OR safety protocols.
- Demonstrate proficiency in both scrub and circulator roles, ensuring adherence to best practices in orthopedic surgical procedures.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of OR staff, providing mentorship and support for professional development.
- Collaborate with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and enhance surgical efficiency.
Required
Education:
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required;
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Required Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of perioperative RN experience, with specific experience in orthopedic surgical procedures.
- Proficiency in both scrub and circulator roles within the operating room.
- Demonstrated experience as a charge nurse, lead, or supervisor in a clinical setting.
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Kansas.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Experience:
- CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification is preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) setting.
Required
Skills and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of AORN perioperative nursing standards, surgical asepsis, and OR safety protocols.
- Working knowledge of orthopedic surgical procedures, instrumentation, and implant systems, including total joint, spine, sports medicine, and trauma.
