Previous Teaching Experience Requirement

Bachelor’s Degree or higher, Indiana Teacher Certification, Experience with Special Education case conferences preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the administrative team to provide leadership and direction for staff and students in accomplishing district/school mission.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students, staff and parents by projecting genuine care and concern.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate initiative and effective leadership to address complex problems/issues, and collaboratively work with others to develop and implement problem solving strategies.
  • Reflect on and learn from personal experiences and feedback of others to grow personally and professionally.
  • Work with Title 1 students and families to ensure attendance, school and health concerns are addressed.
  • Provide support for social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs to Title 1 students.
  • Manage time effectively yet be willing to work beyond regular work hours to complete assigned duties.
  • Be an example of exemplary adult behavior for students.
  • Be a model of regular attendance and on-time arrival.
  • Take an active interest in professional organizations to promote personal and professional improvement.

Special Skills, Training or Aptitudes
  • Proactively develop relationships with students, families, and staff to help students reach desired outcomes
  • Administer student discipline system and attendance procedures in a fair and equitable manner to promote a positive school culture and climate
  • Support the implementation of PBIS and school wide student programs promoting a positive school climate and culture that ensures a quality learning environment
  • Collaborate with school personnel, students’ families, and community resources to promote students’ academic success as well as their physical, social, and mental health.
  • Identify student behavioral needs and proactively develop interventions to support students.
  • Respond to student behavioral needs as needed
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times such as arrival/dismissal and during lunches.
  • Attend and supervise school-sponsored events as assigned.
  • Work with staff, students, and families to guide and support them in understanding the MTSS process
  • Work with students, staff, and parents to develop Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP’s) as part of the Tier II process
  • Serve as an advocate for students to help resolve classroom issues
  • Research interventions specific to student needs and work with district and building resources to ensure implementation of classroom and building level supports
  • Maintain data specific to the Code of Conduct, PBIS, and BIPs as appropriate to inform student individualized plans
  • Assist staff in developing strong classroom and school-wide management systems
  • Provide home to school communication and parent education systems
  • Identify potential resources to assist students in need of support to reduce their susceptibility to disciplinary actions
  • Create systems of celebration or expanded learning opportunities for all students to promote student success
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student records and information
  • An awareness of educational law and codes related to Title 1, HIPPA, Special Education, 504-ADA, and other policies and procedures is necessary.
  • Perform other duties and assume responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
Physical and Mental Efforts
  • This position requires a high level of physical and mental endurance
  • Sitting in an office/classroom environment, performing tasks on a computer or other technical devices.
  • Frequent standing, particularly for sustained periods of time
  • Frequent walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one part of the building to another.
  • Constantly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas to colleagues and/or students accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.
  • Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
