Position Overview
Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location, the Medicine Foundry will allow Lilly to further develop innovative solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, while also reducing costs and environmental impact.
The Reliability Engineer increases the reliability of process and utility equipment in support of manufacturing research requirements for capacity, dependability, quality, safety, environmental and costs. As part of the center for advanced manufacturing research, this role contributes directly to the supply of innovative medicines for clinical trials, ensuring that critical equipment and systems perform optimally to enable cutting-edge pharmaceutical development.
The primary responsibilities of the Reliability Engineer are to provide support, direction and subject matter expertise on equipment reliability issues. The engineer also reviews our current equipment performance to prevent potential reliability issues & implement reliability monitoring programs to provide maximum availability of equipment. The Reliability Engineer will also keep up to date with current technologies available for optimum reliability results including analytical methodologies, predictive technologies, and best practices for equipment design, installation, operation, and servicing.
ResponsibilitiesIn line with the job outlined above, the following are typically the key tasks that would be expected of the role:
- Provide engineering support to both maintenance and equipment owners in your area of expertise.
- Ensure Maintenance program is appropriate for reliable operation of equipment.
- Be a technical expert in the proper use of the CMMS for documenting equipment history.
- Help ensure CMMS data accuracy and structure Determine spare parts identification and stocking strategy.
- Ensure Job Plans are correct and contain sufficient detail.
- Provide training to Maintenance personnel on new equipment, reliability principles & techniques.
- Mentor process engineers and others on equipment reliability principles and processes.
- Identify & support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the Maintenance program in the short & medium term to maintain a reliable plant.
- Participate, raise, investigate & complete HSE & Quality observation/deviations write-ups as appropriate.
- Analyze predictive & condition-based monitoring data to identify follow-up actions and prioritize implementation.
- Utilize appropriate techniques and tools (RCA, RCM, failure analysis) to reduce equipment issues (downtime, deviations, health and safety and expenses).
- Ensure the local maintenance procedures are in line with Global Engineering Standard & Engineering Best Practices including developing, reviewing & owning Departmental SOP's.
- Determine equipment criticality based on business requirements around quality, health and safety, mechanical integrity, manufacturing capacity and financial impact.
- Ensure proper equipment criticality ranking is maintained in the CMMS.
- Ensure the correct application of predictive maintenance technologies across the site. This includes proper equipment coverage, assisting with interpretation of data, and assisting the Process Engineer for planning corrective actions when needed.
