Structured Cabling Foreman Technician
Mortenson is currently seeking a Structured Cabling Foreman Technician responsible for leading and coordinating the daily activities of a structured cabling installation crew. This position provides hands-on leadership while ensuring all work is performed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications. The Structured Cabling Foreman Technician will oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber optic infrastructure, while maintaining quality standards and supporting project schedules.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, cable schedules, and telecommunications schematics to determine work procedures.
- Lead, coordinate, and direct the daily activities of an assigned crew of structured cabling technicians and installers.
- Assign tasks and monitor crew productivity to ensure project milestones and schedule commitments are met.
- Perform and oversee the installation of structured cabling systems, including fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure.
- Ensure proper installation of cable pathways, conduits, cable trays, ladder racks, telecommunications rooms, and equipment racks.
- Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and certify fiber optic and copper cabling systems.
- Verify work is completed in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, quality requirements, and company procedures.
- Review project drawings and specifications with crew members and provide technical guidance as needed.
- Coordinate daily activities with project supervision and other trades on site.
- Identify and resolve installation issues, material shortages, and workflow challenges.
- Enforce company safety policies and procedures while promoting a strong safety culture.
- Conduct crew safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Track labor hours, production progress, material usage, and daily field activities.
- Maintain accurate daily reports and time records.
- Provide training, coaching, and mentorship to technicians and installers.
- Lead by example through quality workmanship, professionalism, and safe work practices.
- Build positive working relationships with team members, customers, and project stakeholders.
- Perform hands-on structured cabling work as needed to support project requirements.
- All other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, low-voltage systems, or a related construction field.
- Previous experience leading a crew of technicians or installers preferred.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems, including fiber optic and copper infrastructure.
- Experience pulling, routing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic and copper cabling systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, telecommunications schematics, and project specifications.
- Knowledge of industry standards, including TIA/EIA, BICSI, and applicable building codes.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, train, and direct field crews.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Positive attitude, strong teamwork orientation, customer service mindset, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and make sound decisions in the field.
- Ability to travel and work overtime as project needs require.
- Repetitive hand, arm, and leg movements.
