Witham Health Services is seeking a skilled Plant Operations Specialist to join our team. This position performs daily operations of the facility and responds to maintenance needs throughout Witham facilities in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
The Plant Operations Specialist plays an important role in maintaining a safe, reliable, and efficient healthcare environment by performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, facility improvements, security-related needs, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Plant Operations or designee.
This position offers an opportunity for an experienced trades professional to utilize their skills in a healthcare setting while supporting the systems and infrastructure that allow Witham Health Services to provide exceptional care to our patients, families, and community.
Job SummaryThe Plant Operations Specialist is responsible for performing facility maintenance, repairs, preventative maintenance, and operational support throughout Witham Health Services facilities. This role requires knowledge and experience across multiple trade areas including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, low voltage systems, and general building maintenance.
The specialist will work independently and collaboratively with the Plant Operations team, vendors, contractors, and other departments to ensure facility systems remain safe, functional, and compliant with applicable regulatory requirements.
- High school graduate or GED preferred
- Vocational training and/or apprenticeship preferred, or equivalent work experience in the field accepted
- In-house or field experience within a healthcare setting preferred
- 5 or more years of experience working in a commercial or industrial trade field required
- Valid Indiana driver's license required with driving history meeting WHS insurance requirements
- Ability to maintain telephone communication to support callback requirements as needed
- Available to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as schedule requires
- Demonstrates knowledge and competency in low voltage electrical control systems
- Works safely and efficiently with minimal supervision
- Maintains confidentiality regarding critical and private systems
- Demonstrates behavior consistent with Witham Health Services teamwork requirements
- Works within applicable guidelines including:
- National Electric Code
- Life Safety Code
- National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA)
- Indiana State Board of Health
- The Joint Commission (TJC)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- OSHA Regulations
- Any other Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
- Demonstrates ability to perform all duties as assigned
- Maintains applicable controls and low voltage certifications
- Responsible for installation, safety testing, preventative maintenance, diagnostic troubleshooting, cost-effective maintenance, and repair of low voltage control systems used throughout WHS facilities
- Responsible for overseeing, servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, operating, maintaining, and documenting equipment and systems including:
- Fire alarm systems
- Access control systems
- Pneumatic tube systems
- Infant abduction systems
- Nurse call systems
- Other assigned systems and equipment
- Responds to codes and facility system needs as assigned by the Director of Plant Operations or designee
- Communicates professionally with equipment vendors, parts suppliers, and contractors to obtain competitive service and repair solutions
- Troubleshoots and repairs controls for cooking appliances, microwave ovens, kitchen equipment, and non-clinical electrical devices
- Works collaboratively with other department trades specialists to support workload requirements
- Provides expertise and support to other departments as needed
- Maintains clean and organized work areas including plant spaces, shops, electrical rooms, above ceiling areas, cable penetrations, and fire penetrations
- Maintains professional appearance and attitude
- Supports training of other department trades staff in systems-related areas
- Assists with installation, repair, and planning of upgrades involving:
- Nurse call systems
- Access control systems
- Energy management systems
- Security camerasli
- Low voltage control systems
- Identifies opportunities for cost savings while maintaining system reliability and security
