The Lebanon High School is proud to offer the School of Discovery to students. The School of Discovery is a micro school (small, personalized learning environment) that allows students to engage in real‑world and career‑connected learning. Students learn to work in teams, manage their schedules, communicate needs, and develop professional skills while earning course credit. There are specialized tracks for Business and Medical.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Certificates: Bachelor’s Degree and valid Missouri teaching certificate required;
Biology certification preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, board policy, administrative procedures/forms, and government regulations.
  • Ability to complete forms, write reports, and engage in written correspondence with parents.
  • Ability to write clearly and complete lesson plans.
  • Working knowledge of mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Understanding of basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use; proficiency with district software for recording grades.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in general science, earth sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, physiology, or related subjects to secondary students.
  • Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state law and district regulations.
  • Plans a science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities.
  • Demonstrates scientific concepts by using scientific apparatus, experiments, and instructional aides.
  • Provides individual or small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to students’ needs.
  • Instructs students in proper use, care, and safe handling of chemicals, equipment, and living specimens.
  • Maintains safe storage and proper use of materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class, laboratory, and field trips.
  • Evaluates each student’s growth in knowledge, skills, and scientific attitudes.
  • Selects and requests books, instructional aids, scientific equipment, chemicals, and supplies; maintains inventory records.
  • Maintains professional competence through in‑service education and self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Identifies students’ needs and cooperates with other staff to help students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Assists students in selecting and developing individual research projects.
  • Cooperates with school administration to provide science displays and programs for school and community; sponsors science activities.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Supervises students in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned workday.
  • Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the administrator.
Supervisory Duties
  • Supervises students at all times.
Physical Demands

Requires ability to speak and hear in a noisy environment; move around classroom; read handwritten and printed materials.

Attendance

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential job function.

Conditions and Environment

Regularly works in a noisy, active school environment; occasionally works outdoors for short periods (e.g., loading/unloading buses).

Terms of Employment

183 days; salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy on Evaluation of Certified Staff.
