Lead Teacher, Assistant Director, Director
As a supporting member of the Fit Kids team, the Associate Teacher supports the classroom teachers to maintain a warm, welcoming, developmentally appropriate environment for a designated age group. They assist the teaching team in performing the daily tasks associated with working with that assigned designated age group and performing any tasks the teachers may assign. The Associate Teacher would provide the necessary coverage needed to maintain required staff to child ratios in the absence of regular classroom teachers.
KeyAccountabilities
- Arrive 5 minutes prior to the shift and be prepared to start your workday on time.
- Be familiar with, and follow, the Rules and Regulations set by the New Hampshire Childcare Licensing Bureau.
- Complete the requirements for an Associate Teacher qualification according to the New Hampshire Childcare Licensing Bureau; fingerprinting, background check, orientation, etc.
- Actively contribute to general upkeep and tidiness of the classroom. Perform housekeeping tasks such as washing dishes and toys, sanitizing, and other cleaning tasks.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward work, coworkers, children, and families.
- Interact with children, families, and staff in a positive, respectful, friendly, and caring manner.
- Become familiar with the center routine and ensure that it is followed, including known allergies, medications, etc. for children and staff.
- Help maintain classroom arrangement that is attractive, well-organized, and has functional arrangements for children to use.
- Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and staff.
- Make sure all written and verbal communication is approved through the Lead teacher.
- Communicate to the Lead Teacher any problems, concerns or questions.
- Use Procare and the NH Early Learning Standards and all of its components for the assessment and documentation of children within the classroom with support from the Lead Teacher.
- Support the Lead Teacher in getting lesson plans completed at least one week in advance.
- Contribute to meeting the minimum of 1 observation per child per week entered in Procare and shared with parents.
- Conduct parent/teacher conferences as required or requested.
- Perform all tasks related to the well-being of children, including but not limited to feeding, holding, changing and playing with each child.
- Welcome children & parents upon arrival and departure with a smile. Discuss with parents daily events and any problems or concerns.
- Adhere to all policies within the Woodrow Fitness employee handbook and the Woodrow Fitness Safety Protocols.
- Ensure safety and well-being of children at all times, including regular head counts.
- Provides guidance and re-direction when required; emphasizes positive reinforcement; illustrates proper behavior/skills.
- Be open and flexible in working a varied schedule when reasonable notification is given. Last minute flexibility may also be necessary in extreme coverage situations.
- Write up accident reports and have them read by the Lead Teacher within the same day the incident occurred.
- Help direct supporting staff, including Assistant Teachers or part time teachers with following classroom routine and meetings needs of the children.
- Work with all teachers to create a warm, fun, professional and productive work environment.
- Signs in/out on Procare each time a classroom is entered or left for coverage.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service days.
- Keep up to date with training hours required according to NH licensing.
Skills and Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or related field preferred
- 1-2 years professional teaching experience
- Must meet NH licensing requirements for Associate Teacher
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Safely lift small children up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, stoop and kneel frequently to assist children.
- Ability to sit on the floor with children.
- Tolerance of loud noise
- Exposure to bodily fluids
- Ability to withstand strong odors.
