Vice Chair for Academic Affairs, Department of Radiology Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center

Dartmouth Health’s Department of Radiology is seeking a Vice Chair (VC) for Academic Affairs (AA) to join our dynamic Department in the beautiful Upper Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont. Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, the system’s central clinical hub and Academic Medical Center, is located immediately adjacent to bustling college town of Hanover, NH. Hanover is home to the world-renowned Dartmouth College and the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine.

We are seeking a skilled, visionary, and impactful radiologist leader to define and execute a vision for a highly engaged academic faculty where promotion, academic success, scholarly impact, and career development are all prized. Our department is part of a thriving academic medical center that is strongly affiliated with one of the best medical schools in the country; this defining feature of our work can be enhanced and optimized by the right academic affairs leader.

The majority of the VC’s work will be working with faculty at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), our main academic medical center, which includes an NCI-designated cancer center, a comprehensive stroke center, and a level I trauma center. The Vice Chair of Academic Affairs will also serve an important role at the system level working on faculty development and faculty support for Departmental radiologists actively working onsite at others sites across the region.

For her or his clinical component, the Vice Chair will join a clinical section based on the candidate’s subspeciality interest and preferred practice area (e.g. abdominal imaging, neuroradiology, mammography, etc). Generally, this role is best suited for candidates at the Full (or possibly Associate) Professor rank.

Position Summary

The Vice Chair of Academic Affairs will be a nationally known leader in the field of academic affairs, wellness, promotions, faculty development, and workplace culture. The Vice Chair should be adept at vision setting and execution. In addition to expertise in academic affairs, he or she will have a reputation for excellence in delivering clinical care, teaching, mentoring, and scholarship. The Vice Chair of Academic Affairs will lead our Department’s Promotions committee as well as all most development programs aimed at career building.

In the realm of teaching to teach, the VC for AA will partner with the VC for Education to help create programing that enhances our faculty’s ability to teach. The VC for AA will form a vital bridge with the Dean’s office and the school-wide promotions and tenure committee, making themselves a valued source of expert information pertaining to all aspects of appointments and promotion.

The VC for AA will assist the Chair in assembling promotion packets and guiding candidates for promotion. The VC will also assist the Chair in the area of recruitment, serving as a resource for candidates pertaining to appointments, and generally being in a position to help with recruitment on the Chair’s behalf. As all Vice Chairs do, the VC for AA will support all three core missions of the Department:

The VC for AA’s responsibilities do not directly involve oversight of the clinical mission, however, a successful faculty are able to provide the highest level of clinical care. As faculty members establish expertise that is recognized nationally, that expertise benefits patients  VC for AA will serve as a partner for the VC for Clinical Operations in areas of collaboration are needed.
