Essential functions:
* Identify and contact property owners (including out-of-state owners) to obtain tree planting agreements.
* Communicate with residents, businesses, and stakeholders through calls, letters, and in-person visits.
* Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, agreements, and outcomes.
* Collaborate with DPW and Tree Advisory Board to align outreach with planting goals.
* Learn and apply criteria for identifying municipal street trees.
* Use mapping tools (e.g., ArcGIS, Survey
123, Field Maps) to record tree locations and attributes.
* Ensure data accuracy for integration into the city's urban forestry database.
* Assist with reporting requirements for grant compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
* High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or training in environmental studies, forestry, urban planning, geography, public administration, or a related field is desirable.
* One (1) year of experience in community outreach, customer service, field data collection, environmental programs, or a closely related area; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of individuals, including residents, property owners, businesses, and public officials.
* Ability to obtain cooperation and permissions through clear explanation, diplomacy, and responsiveness to questions or concerns.
* Basic proficiency with computer applications and mobile technology, including data entry and recordkeeping.
* Ability to learn and use mapping and mobile data collection tools to record locations and attributes accurately.
* Ability to accurately collect, document, and maintain records and data in accordance with established procedures.
* Capacity to learn and apply technical criteria and standardized processes related to tree identification and inventory work.
* Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining regular communication with supervisors and project partners.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
* Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
* Ability to move on uneven terrain, remain stationary for prolonged periods, and perform field-based observational work.
* Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various locations within the City (and occasionally communicate with out-of-state property owners).
