Clinical Nurse Supervisor, RN

General Surgery, Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery

4×10 hour shifts, Days

(no nights/weekends or holidays)

A 36-bed post-surgical unit that specializes in orthopedics, general surgery, and plastic surgery. We also have two negative pressure rooms that can accommodate patients who are being ruled out for tuberculosis or who have a diagnosis of active tuberculosis or shingles. You will see patients in varying stages of pre-and post-surgical care as well as medical co-morbidities.

Manages patient assignments and flow within inpatient care unit. Provides oversight of direct patient care to support patient and staff needs. Serves as a lead, clinical resource, role model, and extension of management to uphold institutional priorities, policies and practices. Assigns staff to patients per current unit workload. Considers pod acuity, staff experience and competency, learning needs and patient acuity/complexity when considering shift assignments.

Participates in performance management of staff members to include coaching, preparation of performance evaluations, and the performance management process. Initiates disciplinary action as appropriate. Addresses conflicts as they may arise. Assists/mediates to maintain smooth operations of the unit. Involves unit leadership or House Supervisor as appropriate. Facilitates timely admissions and discharges to optimize clinical capacity.

Responsibilities

Collaborates and assist with operations by functioning as the first line supervisor to staff. Acts as a resource to staff to provide direct assistance or connect with appropriate resources.

Participates in performance management of staff members to including coaching, preparation of performance evaluations, and the performance management process. Initiates disciplinary action as appropriate.

Works with the staff to facilitate patient flow and to optimize clinical capacity. Determines when and how to flex staff schedules to provide clinical coverage.

Facilitates timely throughput to optimize clinical capacity within the organization.

Performs service recovery to promote patient and employee retention. Responds to staff and patient/family needs.

Addresses conflicts as they may arise. Assists/mediates discussions to maintain smooth operations.

Participates in institutional Quality and Patient Safety improvement initiatives, committees and projects.

Develops, plans, and coordinates the implementation and evaluation of orientation for new staff. Collaborates with the rest of the leadership team to assess and evaluate the clinical competence of department staff.

Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree of Nursing (BSN) at time of hire.
2 years of progressive responsibility within an acute care setting required.
Specialty certification preferred.
Must obtain and maintain clinical competencies within assigned unit.
Excellent written, verbal and computer skills required.
Demonstrated abilities with problem solving, leadership, communication, fiscal responsibility and teamwork.
Ability to work effectively in groups of employees and with patients and patient families is essential.

Required

Licensure/Certification s

Licensed Registered Nurse with New Hampshire eligibility.
Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.
