Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Grocery Department Manager or Assistant Department Manager, this role helps to support daily operations of the Center of Store (COS), ensuring sound operation, growth, and profitability. This role communicates needs and shares insights in order to help grow business metrics. This role demonstrates a high level of customer service, modeling the behaviors to ensure the team is aware and meet expectations in line with the stated goals and policies of the cooperative.

This role has or acquires the knowledge to efficiently complete the daily procedures needed for department success, specifically but not limited to the following: stocks, prepares, packages and maintains product supporting the department management team when requested and or needed. This role will support many areas within the COS, with higher focus in Beverage and Bulk.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities :

Direct the daily operations of the Grocery department, including scheduling, staffing, and customer service

Promote Grocery sales, consult with customers and assist in the department operations

Prioritize effectively and balance competing demands

Responsible for dept. inventory, pricing, special promotions, following guidelines and policies established by assigned merchandiser to assess new Grocery products, maintain margins and interaction with other designated staff

Responsible for dept. inventory, pricing, special promotions

Stock and rotate products, order product on a regular basis, working with employees, sales representatives and vendors

Train, coach, supervise and motivate department staff

Resolve staff issues. Elevate employee relations issues to the Store Manager when necessary

Set goals and standards, monitor compliance, and carry out all appropriate personnel actions in a timely manner

Supervise staff in line with the stated policies of the cooperative, fostering a high degree of teamwork and trust and to provide consistent, excellent customer service

Delegate appropriately, and train and develop staff in line with present and future organization needs

Coordinate ordering including special orders

Ensure products sold at the Co-op meet our standards and are from approved vendor sources

Ensure compliance with Co-op policies and procedures

Check Co-op email at least once per week

Set standard for expected behavior in adhering to all food safety procedures

Participate in department meetings and complete all required trainings for the purpose of maintaining Co-op standards

Adhere to all Co-op policies, procedures and employee code of conduct

Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Experience and Attributes:

High school diploma or equivalent

One year of supervisory experience preferred

One plus years and knowledge of local growers and product

Ability to represent the Co-op in a positive manner

Ability to multi-task Proficiency in ECRS POS system and processes

Set an excellent example for new employees
