Position: Equipment Operator-Roller (West Lebanon, NH)

APAC-Kansas, Inc., Shears Construction, is a multi‑million dollar heavy highway contractor established in 1874. We are looking for an Asphalt Plant Ground Person to work hands‑on on the plant, ensuring efficient and safe operations. This role requires a strong work ethic, willingness to learn and the ability to help maintain equipment and support crews.

About the Role

As an Asphalt Plant Ground Person, you will be trained to operate various equipment, perform maintenance, assist in production and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow instructions from the Foreperson or Supervisor to complete daily tasks.
  • Shovel and rake materials regularly; assist truck drivers with loading and dumping.
  • Operate diverse equipment, including power brooms, plate compactors, wheelbarrows, pipe saws, pumps, generators, jack hammers, and vibratory rollers.
  • Support maintenance and repair of plant equipment.
  • Conduct pre‑shift safety inspections on all equipment.
  • Help clean and maintain areas in and around the plant and quarry.
  • Operate bobcat and loader to move and stockpile materials as needed.
  • Always maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.
  • Adhere to all state and federal safety regulations (DOT, OSHA, MSHA and others).
  • Take on other duties as assigned to support plant operations.

  • Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Work well in a team and follow directions efficiently.
  • Stay calm and professional in stressful situations.
  • Prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work various hours (day, night, weekends) and locations as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, management and customers (verbal and written).
  • Identify and resolve problems; interpret instructions and regulations clearly.

Work Environment Requirements
  • Frequently required to climb, balance and perform tasks involving physical agility.
  • Regularly sit, climb and use hand signals or equipment; occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch or reach above shoulder height.
  • Lift and move objects weighing up to 25‑50 lbs as needed.
  • Work primarily outdoors, often in extreme weather and environmental conditions.
  • Comfortable working in all weather conditions; exposed to jobsite hazards such as moving machinery, high places, airborne particles and loud environments.
  • Must have specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral and depth perception, to operate equipment safely.
