Half paid at the beginning of the November 2025 winter plowing season and the remainder paid at the end of the season March 2026

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highway Maintenance, District 2, has a full-time vacancy for an Assistant Highway Patrol Foreman.

SUMMARY:

To serve as an Assistant Patrol Foreman for an assigned Highway Patrol Section/Shed (District or Turnpike System) for NHDOT. Assists in providing supervision and coordinates assignments to crews and contractors performing activities (24/7/365) in all seasons and weather conditions. Ensures that all work is performed per regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements and within the industry and Departmental policies and standards.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS:
Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/

Experience:

Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in civil technology, public works, highway maintenance, or general construction work, with at least 1 year performing all phases of highway maintenance work.

License/Certification:
Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License, Class B (CDL-B) with appropriate endorsements.

Other Requirements:

1. Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.

2. Must receive a negative result on a pre-employment urinalysis drug screen in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements.

3. Must be able to lift/carry material weighing up to 50 lbs. on an intermittent basis.

4. Must have a telephone or acceptable means of communication and be available 24 hours per day.

5. Must be available to respond to highway maintenance call outs on a 24-hours per day basis to be eligible for maintenance stipend.

Trainee Option:
Candidates with an equivalent combination of 2+ years of education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in trainee status for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical institute with a major study in civil technology or public works administration, or two years of college with a minimum of six semester hours in civil technology or public works administration.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:

Offers of employment are conditional upon the individual obtaining a Commercial Driver's License medical card unless the candidate is currently employed by the State of New Hampshire

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with hiring and training patrol crews, mechanized equipment operators, and entry-level personnel involved in all phases of highway maintenance and roadside facility operations. Inspects tasks to ensure quality, timely completion, appropriate use of resources, and adherence to safety, environmental, and department guidelines and standards. Alerts the Highway Patrol Foreman of any issues or concerns; develops and maintains respectful and harmonious working relations between employees within the patrol crews.

Reviews work schedules, staffing and job assignments to ensure efficient coverage for operations within assigned areas; collaborates with other Assistant Highway Patrol Foreman as necessary. Maintains section and personnel records, including
