Civil Engineering, Structural Engineer
Manages complex projects independently in Production (e.g., new location, new alignment, multi-lane & or bi-directional reconstruction, major structures) by generating & reviewing detailed drawings using CADD or drafting equipment, design software, & engineering principles (e.g. structural steel design, structural concrete design, hydraulic design, geometric design, statistical analysis, cost analysis) in development of construction project plans under the general supervision of a registered professional engineer.
Conducts reviews of highway & bridge construction plans, contracts & cost estimates for technical accuracy. Performs field review to evaluate land feature that will impact design of project. Coordinates & requests field work as necessary. Under the supervision of higher-level exempt engineer, assists in the necessary geometrics & analytical calculations; calculates quantities. Assures accurate & timely updating of management information systems as they relate to the delivery of the program (i.e., ELLIS, TMS) & assures that the business rules, policies, & procedures are implemented, used, & maintained as standard business practice in the designated work environments.
Prepares required reports relative to assigned projects/plans; prepares or reviews cost estimates; confers with supervisor or higher-level engineer regarding unusual or complex problems or to obtain approval on plans. Provides technical assistance & direction to technicians & subordinate engineers on squad/team; assists in training of squad/team members.
Reviews & checks plans for engineering accuracy & compliance with design criteria; prepares construction change orders; maintains project records.
Performs other duties as assigned by higher authority. Meets with the public, government officials, & property owners to provide information regarding the design of projects. Attends training, technical & professional meetings to keep informed of new design criteria & policies.
Bachelor's degree in engineering; valid certificate as Engineer-In-Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 2 yrs. engineering related experience.
- Or Valid certificate as Engineer-In-Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 1, 85641.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration.
