What you will be doing:

• Geotechnical program manager for District 8; develop project scopes for geohazards and provide input on scope for district projects.
• Review project plans (ODOT Let and Local Let) for conformance with ODOT geotechnical standards, specifications and constructability.
• Support District Construction staff to solve a wide range of construction problems involving pile driving, MSE walls, drilled shafts, and chemical stabilization.
• Review and accept geotechnical shop drawings on behalf of the district.
• Act as staff specialist: develop engineering policies, manage complex projects, oversee district’s miscellaneous construction program, and sign engineering documents and plans as a registered professional engineer.
• Check and approve designs of proposed and complete structures, perform hydraulic calculations, and assess feasibility of engineering designs.
• Administer Construction Department activities, solve project problems (drainage, culverts, bridges, paving, unstable subgrade), assist in policy development, and advise engineers, contractors and officials.
• Research projects with other departments and review final project inspections for conformance to state specifications.

• License as a registered professional engineer by the Ohio State Board (valid registration required).
• Two years of experience as a group or project leader or supervisor providing work direction and training of engineering employees; or two years managing engineering research projects (for staff specialist positions).
• Alternative:
  One year of experience as Transportation Engineer 3, 85643.
• Valid driver’s license if required to operate a state vehicle.
