This recruitment is to fill positions in our service areas:
Lebanon, Albany and the Corvallis/Philomath areas as openings occur. Positions are 40 hours per week M-F, and one 27 hour per week position (M-TH)

Position

Purpose:

As part of the education team, support efficient classroom operations to promote the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of Head Start children.

Essential

Job Responsibilities:

Classroom Support
Provide assistance in assigned classrooms to:

• Gather and prepare materials for classroom use.

• Follow a consistent schedule which includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, two meals and effective transitions between activities.

• Provide assistance in maintaining a developmentally appropriate and safe environment.

• Support an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement in the classroom.

• Work with and guide children in a supportive, positive and consistent manner.

• Provide supervision for small group activities.

• Work with individual or small groups of children

• Perform classroom and center cleaning tasks as needed and as directed.

• Attend and participate in program meetings as requested by supervisor

• Complete all areas of responsibility in compliance with program code of conduct and confidentiality policies.

• Be a contributory team member in a positive/productive manner.

• Demonstrate commitment to mission, values and policies in the performance of daily duties.

• Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Education requirement: high school diploma or GED

• Experience with children in target age group ( 0-3 and 3-5) is preferred.

• Ability to maintain written and computerized educational record keeping systems in an organized and accurate manner.

• Sensitivity to individual and group needs or adults and children in target area; knowledge of child development and family dynamics preferred.

• Experience assisting in the development and implementation of classroom plans preferred.

• Excellent communication and problem solving skills.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, staff and public.

Other Requirements

• First Aid/CPR and Food Handler's cards.(training is employer paid and provided upon hire)

• Enrollment in Child Care Division Central Background Registry

• Completion of Employee Health Appraisal: pre-employment health appraisal employer paid and arranged.

Necessary Physical/Mental Abilities:

• Significant repetitive bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.

• Ability to rapidly survey environment and move quickly in order to respond to children to ensure their safety or the safety of other children.

• Frequent kneeling, bending, and sitting on the floor as needed to attend to child's needs.

• Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds in classroom setting and assisting children into seats on the bus (if bussing is provided at the center you are assigned)

• Ability to respond appropriately (both mentally and physically) to an emergency or a crisis; ability to self-regulate own emotions and assist children with self-regulation.
