Job SummaryTeach classes in heavy equipment/diesel technology. Specific teaching assignments will depend upon the needs of the College and specific skills of the selected candidate. Program courses cover all diesel/heavy equipment systems, including electrical, fuel, engines, power train, steering, suspension, braking and comfort.
Responsibilities- Prepare and develop materials for classes utilizing approved course outcomes. Depending on the course assignment, you may be asked to use a curriculum developed by the department.
- Complete all administrative tasks associated with teaching a course: assign and grade student work, establish reasonable communication with students, report student attainment of course outcomes, maintain student records, comply with college policies and processes related to teaching workload.
- Keep abreast of development in subject area and educational technology, innovative teaching techniques, and continuously strive for professional improvement.
- Establish and maintain opportunities for reasonable and consistent out‑of‑class contact with students.
- Assure that lab equipment is appropriately used, following all safety protocols and procedures. Verify that all equipment is accounted for at the end of each class.
- Exemplify and promote the mission of LBCC.
- Connect students to college support services and resources to promote student success and retention. Maintain reasonable communication with college support services to this end.
- Work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages.
- Interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of a team.
- Participate as assigned in occasional department and advisory meetings.
- Perform other professional duties as needed.
Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time and operate demanding equipment. Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate equipment. Requires normal hearing and speaking skills to communicate with staff and students. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate lab equipment. Sixty percent or more of the job duties require standing, and job duties require some kneeling, stooping, crawling or crouching.
Occasional lifting of 10‑50 pounds or greater.
Work is primarily performed in college industrial labs and classrooms. May periodically work outside exposed to inclement weather conditions while operating a wide variety of equipment related to the heavy equipment diesel field. Exposure to noise extremes 80 percent of the time.
Education and ExperienceApplications are reviewed for minimum qualifications. In order to be considered, your application must clearly show you meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
- Associate’s degree in diesel technology or closely related field.
- Four or more years full‑time journey level experience in diesel (experience must include suspension, steering, brakes, drive train, electrical/electronic systems, or hydraulics).

Salary and Compensation InformationCourses are paid on a per‑credit basis. New Part‑time Faculty begin at Step 1 of the payscale, with steps being “rolled” once per term, if eligible.
