Classification Pay Scale
In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location.
Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.
Expected Pay Scale

Under the general direction of the Office of the President, the Government Affairs Director serves as a key leader in advancing Western University of Health Sciences’ public policy and advocacy priorities across Oregon. The Director leads strategic engagement with government entities, elected officials, and policy stakeholders to enhance Western
U’s visibility, influence, and impact.
This position also collaborates closely with internal departments and external partners to promote initiatives aligned with Western
U’s mission, values, and community health priorities.
Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the assigned classification, with or without reasonable accommodation(s), using some other combination of skills and abilities. Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities are as follows:
Knowledge of:
Deep understanding of Oregon’s legislative and regulatory landscape; knowledge of Oregon policy environment strongly preferred.
Skills to:
Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional policy initiatives and managing external relationships. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and strategic thinking skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Ability to:
Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, law, public health, or related field.
Experience or Training:
Minimum 6–8 years of progressively responsible experience in government relations, legislative affairs, or policy advocacy. 3 or more years of supervisory/managerial experience.
Special Requirements , Licenses, and
Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license and a clean driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Education:
Master’s degree in public policy, political science, law, public health, or related field.
