Prospective Teacher Substitutes (Current College Student)
Pennsylvania Act 86 of June, 2016, allows current students enrolled in a qualifying teacher preparation program, working toward Pennsylvania Certification, to work as a substitute teacher. Job Goal:
The Prospective Teacher Substitute provides students with a safe and effective learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher and to provide students with meaningful and appropriate instruction in accordance with the lesson plans provided.
Qualifications:
- You must be at least 18 years of age and a United States citizen,
- You must be currently enrolled in a Pennsylvania State college or university,
- You must be enrolled in a qualifying Teacher Preparation Program,
- You must have acquired 60 college credits to date,
An individual who participates in the program can serve as a substitute for no more than 10 days per school year for a single employee and no more than a total of 20 days per school year. Renewal:
The permit will be valid for one school year and can be renewed for one additional school year if the individual provides documentation that he or she has completed an additional 15 credit hours from a college/university in Pennsylvania and remains enrolled in a college/university in Pennsylvania.
