Product Engineer
As a Product Engineer at Lancaster Products in Lebanon, PA, you will design industrial mixing and material handling equipment from the ground up - not one small piece of somebody else's machine. We build custom-engineered equipment for manufacturers, and almost every order needs real engineering work, so you will take a signed contract, turn it into a set of prints, and follow it through the shop floor, out the door, and into a customer's plant.
If you like living in Solid Works and you want to see what you drew actually get built, this may be a great fit!
About half your day is screen time in Solid Works. The other half you are out of your seat - down on the manufacturing floor answering questions about parts you released, on the phone with a vendor, or emailing a customer about the details of their new mixer. The engineering team is small, so the work is broad, and it changes week to week.
Day-to-day you'll:
- Design 3D models, assemblies, and complete machines in Solid Works, and produce the engineering drawings that go out to the shop
- Turn negotiated contracts into a set of prints approved by the end user, then release parts to manufacturing
- Research and select components from vendors, gathering data sheets and weighing function against cost
- Support your project through the full lifecycle - the build, commissioning, operation, and service
- Answer technical questions from production, sales, and the manufacturing manager on parts, bills of materials, and part numbering
- Work directly with customers on installation and interface questions: what comes before the mixer, what comes after it, and how it will be controlled
- Travel occasionally - about 10%, mostly domestic - to support equipment start-up at customer sites
Hands-on 3D CAD design experience, Solid Works strongly preferred - and real enjoyment of it, because it is about half the job. A degree in an engineering discipline, or an associate's degree and CAD/3D design experience paired with several years of relevant industry experience. Mechanical aptitude for heavy-duty equipment design. Comfort walking out to the shop floor and talking things through with the people building your design.
Enough curiosity and self-direction to be handed a project and an end goal and work out the path yourself. Capital equipment, engineered-to-order, mixing, or material handling experience (mining, conveying, bulk material) is a significant plus. Working knowledge of industrial controls and electrical components is a plus.
Lancaster Products designs and builds high-intensity mixers and material handling equipment for manufacturers. We are a small, privately held company with our own product line, which means our engineers work on whole machines instead of a narrow slice of someone else's design. Most of what we do is engineered to order - a standard line of machines customized for nearly every customer - so no two projects look quite the same, and you will see your work through from a drawing to a running machine in a customer's plant.
A salary of $58,000 - $92,000 (we are open to bringing someone on entry-level to experienced, so comp will reflect that). A flexible start time - begin any day between 7:00 and 9:00 AM 3 Medical Insurance Options – Base plan 100% employer-paid Dental/Vision benefits Life insurance, Short-Term Disability, and EAP Vacation, Personal, Sick Time, and Paid Holidays 401k plan with generous company matching (100% on the first 3% and 50% on 4-6%) Unusual breadth for an engineer: full machines, your own projects, and direct customer contact A small team where your work is visible and your questions get answered
