Position: Nursing Assistant - Medical Unit - Day/Night
Part Time (48 Hours Biweekly)

Day/Evening 7:00 a.m.

- 7:30 p.m. or Evening/Night 7:00 p.m.

- 7:30 a.m.

Every third weekend and every other holiday

* Evening/Night shift is Eligible for Shift Differential

Medical/Surgical Units:

2 East Medical/Surgical Unit

The 2 East unit is an inpatient acute care medical and surgical unit consisting of 30 private and semiprivate rooms. This unit serves patients with all acute care needs including but not limited to Cardiac, GI, Infectious disease, Fractures, Wound Care, Respiratory, and limited behavioral health. We have a combination of medical and surgical patients. Staff must complete telemetry training and maintain competency in reading ECG and administering cardiac drips.

3 South Medical/Surgical/Telemetry/Stroke Unit

The 3 South unit is a 32 bed Step Down Intermediate Care Unit from ICU. The primary population on 3 South are adult and geriatric patients with cardiac disease and stroke. In addition, we accommodate acute cardiac events requiring continuous intravenous medication drips, pre and post electrophysiology (EP) studies, pre and post cardiac catheterization, and pre and post pacemaker/automated implantable cardiac defibrillator (AICD) care.

All RN's are Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certified and Stroke Certified. The CHF Program Coordinator and the Stroke Program Coordinator work closely with the staff to provide high quality education for the patients.

4 East Medical/Surgical/Telemetry

The 4 East unit is the medical-surgical unit which provides care to adults who are hospitalized with a wide variety of conditions, including pneumonia, stroke, and fractures. We also see behavioral health patients and serve the hospice population. Our team also prepares patients for surgical procedures and provides post-surgical care required until the time of discharge. The Medical Surgical floor has the ability to care for 25 patients requiring telemetry.

The goals of the medical surgical unit staff are to provide efficient, quality, individualized and comprehensive nursing care to all patients.

General Summary

Provides clinical support services to patient care staff by performing a variety of duties related to patient care. Takes patient vital signs, assists patients with activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, feeding, toileting, etc.), inventories and replenishes supplies and equipment, and performs special assigned duties such as performing EKGs and Point-of-Care testing.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

* Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including activities of daily living and the removal of peripheral IVs and indwelling urinary catheter.

* Monitors patient condition levels; recognizes and reports changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.

* Possess the knowledge and skills to keep patients safe. Performs purposeful hourly rounds to identify and address patient needs.

* Obtains and electronically documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, respiration and pulse.

* Train and precept new employees.

* Performs Point-of-Care testing which may include blood glucose, hemocult and specific gravity testing. Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains related records.

* Prepares patients for tests, procedures, etc. and transports patients to tests, procedures and different levels of care.

* Collects specimens as directed using appropriate or specified equipment for collecting and handling specimens.

* Performs EKGs and transmits studies.

* Obtains and removes equipment and supplies necessary for patient care.

* Responsible for maintaining and storing equipment appropriately and completing electronic requests for equipment repairs.

* Maintains par levels of supplies and equipment on assigned unit(s). Notifies supervisor when reorder points are reached.

* Responsible for stocking patient rooms, nursing areas, supply carts, etc. with appropriate items at required levels.

* Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
