Nurse Manager
The Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
- Functioning as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.
- Collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence based cutting-edge programs/processes.
- Engaging in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
- Adhering to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
- Equipping staff with tools for culturally competent care and promoting a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
- Cultivating alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
- Contributing to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.
- Ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Aligning nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution.
- Promoting an inclusive workplace valuing diversity to achieve the organization’s vision and mission.
- Maintaining knowledge and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Submitting requests for additional staff, and/or to backfill vacant positions.
- Analyzing schedules and being creative with staffing to minimize overtime usage and be fiscally responsible.
- Incorporating staff and empowering them to have a say in their work environment, incorporating them into the group process of decision-making. Attending all necessary meetings/committee's/council's associated with nursing, in general, and Extended Care, such as Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) to facilitate analyzing processes in the group forum.
- Applying evidenced-based practice principles to validate and/or improve nursing practice.
- Understanding the need to maintain competencies to ensure he/she may fill in when staffing levels require it.
- Managing supplies and equipment inventories and assuring equipment is maintained and in working order.
- Managing the overall environment; entering work orders for any damaged walls, tiles, etc.; collaborating with Environmental Management Service (EMS) to promote a hygienic care environment; etc.
- Completing annual performance appraisals and proficiencies in a timely manner and effectively maintaining all files, assuring competency and safe practice for assigned staff. Performing human resource (HR) functions including performance-based interviewing for selection of staff, in a fair, unbiased manner to create a diverse environment and workforce.
- Providing feedback to clinic staff on their performance—for accolades and for areas of improvement.
- Submitting all necessary documentation and data to ACNS, Human Resources (HR), committees/councils, Executive offices, etc., prior to the deadline.
- Implementing action plans to assure performance measures are met to improve organizational performance.
- Assuring a safe patient environment and immediately correcting deficiencies.
- Maintaining working knowledge of the AFGE contract, and abiding by the contract, laws, regulations, and Veterans Affairs (VA) Directives.

Pay:
Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards
