Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional
Educational Assistant
Perform instructional activities under the direct guidance of the teacher.
General Responsibilities/
Essential Functions:
- Required to work under direct guidance of the classroom teacher unless otherwise assigned to another supervisor
- Assist individual pupils and small groups in developing academic skills
- Perform such clerical duties as preparing instructional materials, making reports, checking papers, and recording grades
- Ensure that the use of the district's resources (time, money, people) are used in the most strategic and effective way possible
- Maintain student records as directed by the classroom teacher
- Administer all diagnostic tools as directed by the teacher
- Assist in preparing the classroom and organizing all instructional materials and equipment as directed by the teacher
- Monitor the classroom when the teacher must attend staff meetings, provide consultation, etc.
- Monitor student behavior in halls and be able to quickly intervene if necessary
- Attend all in-service and faculty meetings when directed to do so by the principal or Director of Schools
- Must not discuss confidential school business, or student records in or out of school or with peers
- Assist in the supervision of students on bus trips as directed by the building-level administrator

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Project a positive image of the LSSD at all times and support district goals
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of district information
- Support the effective delivery of a high quality of education for all students
- Provide exceptional levels of professional support and service to staff and public
- Appropriate Attendance Record
- Dress neatly and appropriately, according to system staff dress code
- May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities
- Successful completion of Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screen
Qualifications:
High school diploma. Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred.
"Highly Qualified" (i.e. successful completion of Paraprofessional screener, or 48 hours of college credit, Associates, or Bachelor's Degree)
Sufficient experience so that with appropriate training, services may be provided in the specific role for which employed
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal or Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable
Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active light work in a classroom setting. Must be able to stand and walk prolonged periods of time, as needed, to monitor students in cafeteria, halls, and classrooms.
