The Upfitter installs and services a wide range of automotive accessories, ensuring consistent, high-quality workmanship on commercial vehicles. This role prepares chassis for body installation, performs mechanical and electrical work, completes warranty service repairs, and contributes to process improvements in a busy shop environment.
Responsibilities- Complete consistent, high-quality installations of truck accessories with strong attention to detail, including lift gates, shelving units, tool boxes, body components, cranes, and lighting systems.
- Prepare chassis for truck body installation by installing hitch components, hitch plates, fuel system components, electrical wiring, shear bars, and related parts.
- Read and follow detailed work and sales orders, installation drawings, schematics, and blueprints to perform accurate upfit installations.
- Perform basic troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems related to truck bodies and accessories.
- Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools to complete installations, service repairs, and fabrication tasks.
- Complete custom warranty service repairs on commercial vehicles in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
- Document the cause of issues and the corrective actions taken for all warranty and service repairs to maintain accurate service records.
- Self-check completed work and inspect prior processes to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
- Complete inspection check sheets thoroughly to verify that all installation and repair steps meet requirements.
- Initiate and suggest process improvements that support achieving shop productivity, quality, and safety goals.
- Fabricate custom mounting brackets and related components as needed to support specific upfit requirements.
- Accumulate and maintain the tools and equipment required to perform assigned tasks effectively.
- Work overtime as needed to meet customer and production schedules.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support shop operations and team objectives.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Basic wiring knowledge, including cutting, stripping, and connecting electrical wires.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform automotive and truck body repair tasks.
- Experience with vehicle mechanics, including electrical systems, hydraulics, and basic fabrication techniques.
- Ability to use hand tools, electric tools, cordless tools, and pneumatic tools safely and effectively.
- Capability to read and interpret installation drawings, schematics, blueprints, and detailed work orders.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical issues on commercial vehicles.
- Dependable, self-starter with a proven track record of reliability.
- Team-oriented mindset with a positive attitude and willingness to collaborate.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed to support production and service demands.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a service shop environment preferred.
- Experience in automotive repair, upfitting, vehicle maintenance, vehicle repair, and body repair is beneficial.
- Mig welding experience is a plus.
- General welding experience is a plus.
- Power take-off (PTO) experience is a plus.
- Ability to fabricate custom mounting brackets and perform basic fabrication work.
- Comfort working with cranes, lighting systems, and other truck-mounted equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to document work performed clearly and accurately for warranty and service records.

Work EnvironmentThis position is based in a shop environment within a newer facility. Bay doors are open most of the time, so temperatures can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and employees should be comfortable working in varying climate conditions. Work is hands-on and involves regular use of hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as well as interaction with lift gates, shelving, cranes, and lighting systems.
The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with some overtime possible based on workload and customer needs. Attire should be appropriate for a shop setting, with practical work clothing suitable for fabrication, repair, and installation tasks.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lebanon, TN.
