Front Ensemble Instructor - The Ledyard (HS) Colonel Marching Band
Job Summary
The Front Ensemble Instructor provides specialized instruction for the marching band's percussion section. This part‑time, seasonal role operates on an extracurricular stipend, and the instructor reports directly to the Marching Band Director. They are responsible for refining the technical execution, timing, and visual performance of the front ensemble (mallets, keyboards, guitar, bass, auxiliary percussion, electronics).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (college degree or pursuing a degree in Music Education or related field preferred).
- Previous marching experience (e.g., DCI, WGI, college, or top‑tier high school program) preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of the front ensemble section, providing specialized instruction in mallet and general percussion technique to beginning through advanced students, including proper two‑ and four‑mallet techniques.
- Supervise the daily setup, teardown, and proper storage of all front ensemble equipment and instruments.
- Perform minor repairs and tuning of all percussion equipment; report equipment needs to the Band Director.
- Collaborate with the Drumline Instructor to ensure the total percussion ensemble is musically cohesive and aligned with the Marching Band Director's goals.
- Write, arrange, and/or rewrite percussion parts for the competitive show/pep band as needed.
- Attendance is expected for all scheduled rehearsals and performances; absences may be approved with advanced notice at the discretion of the Marching Band Director.
- Facilitate percussion auditions before the end of the school year.
- Perform other duties related to the marching band program as assigned by the Marching Band Director.
