We are seeking a Special Education Teacher for a full-time middle school position near the Ledyard, CT area. This role will support students in a self-contained Life Skills classroom serving 6th-8th grade students.

The ideal candidate will be confident with IEP writing, progress monitoring, classroom management, and supporting students with functional, academic, behavioral, and life skills needs. This position will begin as soon as possible and continue into the next school year.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, write, implement, and monitor student Individualized Education Programs
  • Track student progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction as needed
  • Provide direct instruction in academic, functional, social-emotional, behavioral, and life skills areas
  • Support students in a self-contained classroom environment
  • Participate in Planning and Placement Team meetings
  • Collaborate with a Special Education Administrator who supports and runs PPT meetings
  • Modify curriculum, lessons, and materials based on student needs
  • Implement behavior supports and classroom management strategies
  • Collect data for IEP progress reports and compliance documentation
  • Collaborate with related service providers, general education staff, families, and school administrators
  • Create a structured, supportive, and student-centered classroom environment
Candidates must have
:
  • Active Connecticut Special Education teaching license covering up to 8th grade
  • Experience writing and monitoring IEPs
  • Ability to participate in PPT meetings and special education planning processes
  • Experience or comfort working in a self-contained classroom setting
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to support students with academic, functional, behavioral, and life skills needs
