Position: Support Assistant (SEN)

New Directions Education are recruiting a pool of compassionate, reliable and dedicated school based Support Assistants to work part time within specialist school settings across Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs, helping them access their school day safely, comfortably and with dignity.

This is a non-classroom-based role focused on supporting learners with their personal care, wellbeing, and daily routines throughout the school day.

We are looking for people who are:

  • Experienced in supporting children or young people with additional needs, disabilities, or complex needs.
  • Confident in providing personal care support, including toileting, feeding, changing and mobility assistance.
  • Patient, caring and able to build positive relationships with learners.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, dignity and promoting independence.
  • Knowledgeable of a range of SEND needs, including ASC, Speech, Language and Communication Needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health.
  • Previous experience within education, care, support work, residential care or healthcare settings is desirable.

As a School Support Assistant, your working day will involve:

  • Supporting learners with personal care and hygiene needs throughout the school day.
  • Assisting with feeding, mobility and physical support where required.
  • Promoting learner independence, confidence and wellbeing.
  • Supporting transitions between activities, break times and other areas of the school.
  • Working closely with teaching staff, therapists and pastoral teams to ensure learners’ needs are met.
  • Monitoring learner welfare and reporting any concerns in line with safeguarding procedures.
  • Ensuring the safety, dignity and wellbeing of every learner under your care.
