Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit a talented senior bridge engineer with at least seven years’ relevant experience for a permanent position within our bridge and civil-structural engineering team in Leeds.

About the roleAs an experienced senior bridge engineer, you will provide valuable input to our bridge and multidisciplinary civil-structural engineering projects.

- Herring Bridge, Great Yarmouth, UK
- Humber Bridge Maintenance Operation, UK
- Narrow Water Bridge, Omeath, Co Louth, Ireland
- Waterford City Public Infrastructure Project, Ireland
- A6 Dungiven to Drumahoe dualling scheme, Northern Ireland
- Work with existing and new bridge and civil structures across a range of materials and forms, superstructure, substructure, foundation and articulation elements
- Participate in early project stages, including scoping, specifying and interpreting surveys, inspection and investigative works, optioneering and scheme design
- Undertake and manage preliminary and detailed design work, including structural analytical modelling, calculations etc.
- Prepare documents, including technical reports, specifications and contract documents
- Support the delivery of projects within agreed time frames
- Undertake independent design checking and provide construction stage technical support
- Interface with clients from local and national authorities, consultants and design-and-build contractors amongst others
- Support our business development efforts by meeting prospective clients, seeking leads and helping to prepare bids/tenders etc.
- Act as a design certificate signatory, CAT 3 check signatory, client representative and designer’s site representative
- Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStruct
E) or equivalent - A minimum of seven years' post-qualification experience in bridge detailed design
- Good knowledge of structural analysis software including finite element analysis
- Ability to manage and undertake bridge structure analytical modelling, including construction stage and finite element analysis
- Excellent technical knowledge of bridge design
- Experience of contributing to fee proposals and tenders (quality and commercial submissions)
- Demonstrable responsibility for entire/significant portions of bridge-related projects
- Experience of managing bridge engineers and technicians
- Experience undertaking and supporting contract documentation, checking and contract implementation activity on assigned projects
- Meticulous in the detailing of bridge structures
- Flexible, motivated and focused
A strong work ethic - Experience in written and in-person interaction with clients and other external parties
- Fluent or highly proficient in spoken and written English
- Excellent knowledge of and experience in the use of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and other standards and legislation in the field of bridge/structural design
- Experience of contributing and managing detailed bridge design
- Use of Eurocodes in the field of bridge design
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills
- Experience of working independently
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment
- Experience of working to tight deadlines
