Project Leader

Job Overview

We are currently expanding our energy sector team and looking to recruit a Project Leader for our developing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) team. The role will lead the design phase of projects in a fast‑moving sector that is rapidly expanding as part of our national transition to a Net Zero energy system.

The Project Leader will be based in either our Leeds or London (Fleet Place) office, but will also visit other offices and construction sites to see designs become reality.

• Work as part of a project triangle alongside a Site Manager and Quantity Surveyor to ensure technical, constructability and commercial aspects of project delivery are considered throughout.
• Lead the design phase of the project from initial outline through detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Coordinate the project team, including HV electrical, LV electrical, protection, control, civil and geotechnical, BIM modelers, and technical specialists, and ensure designs are completed on programme, within budget, and to the quality defined by the contract and industry specifications.
• Undertake design work within your own discipline.
• Mentor and develop less‑experienced colleagues where appropriate.
• Build positive relationships with the client’s project, operational and technical assurance teams and promote a one‑team approach.

• Degree in Engineering (electrical or civil engineering preferred but not essential).
• Working towards professional qualification.
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across your operational region.

This role is employed by Mott Mac Donald but will involve working across the joint‑venture business, both with Mott Mac Donald and JN Bentley colleagues.
