Position: Senior Project Manager - 35568

Role Overview

Senior Project Manager (Grade
6) at the Environment Agency Flood and Coastal Risk Management Directorate. This is a permanent, full‑time position based at the Leeds or Newcastle lead offices.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver flood risk management projects from initial strategic planning through feasibility, detailed design, implementation, construction and handover.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and partners, building a high‑performing project team.
  • Manage commercial, contract and risk aspects of projects, ensuring governance and project assurance procedures are followed.
  • Develop and maintain resilient relationships with statutory authorities, landowners, local communities and other stakeholders to secure agreements, consents, approvals and external funding.
  • Provide incident response support and be available for business continuity when required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree (or equivalent) in engineering, environmental science, geography or a related discipline; professional membership of ICE, CIWEM or APMP sought but not essential.
  • Significant experience in project and contract management, ideally within engineering, construction, or flood & coastal risk management.
  • Expertise in hydrology, river modelling, feasibility assessment, asset management, business‑case development, cost monitoring/forecasting, scope preparation, CDM, engineering design and construction.
  • Track record of delivering complex projects and coordinating technical teams.
  • Strong mentoring, interpersonal and influencing skills.
Location & Working Arrangements

The role is based at the Leeds or Newcastle lead offices. Travel to other sites and overnight stays may be required. A driving licence is ideally required due to remote sites. Flexible working arrangements, including part‑time, job share, compressed hours and term‑time, are available.
