Job Overview
Our Connectors Business Unit in Leeds, AL is looking for a CNC Manufacturing Engineer to support and improve machining operations on our 2nd shift team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with CNC machining processes, programming, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience with industrial robotics, specifically Fanuc and ABB robots, is highly desired. Candidates with experience in a foundry, casting, or heavy manufacturing environment is also highly desired.
This position requires a floor-focused engineer who enjoys working directly with operators, maintenance personnel, and production teams to improve safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability.
A Day In The Life
- Provide day-to-day engineering support for CNC machining, robotic grinding and welding, and foundry operations during 2nd shift.
- Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot CNC programs for mills, lathes, and machining centers.
- Analyze machining processes and implement improvements to increase throughput, reduce cycle times, and improve quality.
- Support setup reduction initiatives and standardize machining processes.
- Troubleshoot tooling, fixturing, machine performance, and quality-related issues.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and setup sheets.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for production and quality concerns.
- Support new product launches through process development, tooling selection, and equipment validation.
- Collaborate with operators, supervisors, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Identify and execute continuous improvement opportunities focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Program, troubleshoot, and support automated manufacturing cells utilizing Fanuc and ABB robotic systems.
- Assist with robotic integration projects, end-of-arm tooling development, and automation improvements.
- Monitor production metrics and implement corrective actions to achieve operational targets.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety and quality standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum 3 years of CNC manufacturing or machining engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of CNC programming, machining processes, tooling, and fixturing.
- Experience supporting production machining environments.
- Hands-on troubleshooting skills with CNC equipment and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and process specifications.
- Experience with problem-solving methodologies such as Root Cause Analysis, 5 Why, Fishbone, or similar techniques.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Experience programming or supporting Fanuc robots.
- Experience programming or supporting ABB robots.
- Experience with robotic automation cells and automated material handling systems.
- Foundry, casting, metalworking, or heavy manufacturing experience.
- CAD/CAM software experience such as Mastercam, Esprit, Fusion 360, NX, or similar.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of machine vision systems, robotic integration, and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Understanding of casting-to-machining manufacturing processes.
