Water Quality Sampling Officer

Location: South Leeds – covering Leeds, Wakefield, and Normanton.
Working type: Permanent, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Once fully trained, a 24/7 operational standby rota with out‑of‑hours work may be required.

We provide essential water and wastewater services to over 5.4 million residents and many visitors each year. Our work protects communities, the environment and supports Yorkshire’s health and prosperity. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with water quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Comply with all requirements of WQ Sampling procedures, QMS and ISO
    17025 accreditation.
  • Collect samples at water treatment works and distribution assets as per the regulatory sampling programme or as requested.
  • Perform random customer sampling as part of the regulatory programme.
  • Resolve customer issues on site when possible and report unresolved issues.
  • Identify and report anything that may compromise compliance with the Regulatory Sampling Programme, such as observations that could threaten public health.
  • Coordinate with Water Quality Scientists, Production Engineers and Field Technicians for additional sampling or site‑issues.
  • Report and mitigate Health & Safety and/or security issues.
  • Adhere to company lone‑working policy.
  • Operate corporate systems such as Advantex, RTS, Odyssey and Lab Systems as required.
  • Display Responsible Leader Framework behaviours – the leadership behaviours required in your role and for your team.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Develop and maintain effective internal relationships with a focus on teamwork and customer relations.
  • Basic IT skills in Office and email packages with willingness to learn.
  • Experience of delivering excellent customer service and resolving customer contacts.
  • Understanding of potable water quality procedures.
  • Experience working in a procedural and regulated environment.
  • Valid full driving licence and awareness of occupational driving challenges.
  • Self‑motivated and able to manage workload independently.
  • Ability to work at heights and within enclosed spaces.
  • Good sense of smell and taste for on‑site testing.
  • Basic understanding of water treatment operations and distribution systems.
Beneficial Experience
  • Previous experience in water or wastewater sectors, or broader utilities, process or manufacturing industries.
  • Proficient knowledge of corporate systems.
  • Experience in a quality or sampling role.
  • Understanding of Water Quality Regulations.
