We’re looking for an Ecological Consultant to join our growing ecology team, working across a variety of project locations based around Leeds
.
This role is ideal for an ecologist with 2–3 years’ professional experience who is looking to build on their existing skills and take the next step in their consultancy career. You’ll work closely with Senior and Principal Ecologists, supporting the delivery of projects while gaining increasing responsibility.
As an Ecological Consultant at ADAS, you will play a key role in delivering field surveys, preparing technical reports, and supporting project management across a diverse portfolio, including infrastructure and development projects.
What you’ll be doing- Undertaking a range of ecological field surveys (including habitat and protected species surveys), often independently
- Collecting, analysing, and interpreting survey data to inform project outcomes
- Preparing and contributing to technical reports
, such as PEAs, EcIAs and species‑specific surveys - Supporting the coordination and delivery of projects
, ensuring work is completed to programme and budget - Liaising with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders under the guidance of senior staff
- Ensuring compliance with wildlife legislation, policy, and best practice guidance
- A full UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle and commutable to our office
- Degree in ecology or a related discipline
- Relevant ecology experience (consultancy or similar)
- Good working knowledge of UK ecology, legislation, and survey techniques
- Experience of protected species surveys and mitigation
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce high‑quality draft reports
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage your own time effectively
- Interest in developing project management skills
- CIEEM membership (or working towards)
- Experience of biodiversity net gain assessment and UKHAB Surveys
- Strong botanical skills (e.g. habitat condition assessments)
- Protected species survey or mitigation licence (e.g. bats, Great Crested Newts, Hazel Dormouse)
