Position: Science Technician – High-Achieving Secondary Academy

Contract: Full-time, Permanent (Term-Time Only Framework)

The Role

A premier Secondary Academy in Leeds is seeking a professional, meticulous, and exceptionally organized Science Technician to join their expanding STEM faculty. This technical role is ideal for a laboratory specialist, chemistry graduate, or experienced school technician looking to manage high-spec preparation environments, chemical inventories, and technical support frameworks within a modern, data-driven academic department.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance across physics, chemistry, and biology disciplines up to Key Stage 5 (GCSE and A-Level cohorts).
  • Assemble complex laboratory apparatus arrays and calculate and prepare precise chemical molar solutions.
  • Maintain laboratory asset registers and manage the prompt distribution and clean‑up of lesson equipment.
  • Operate ownership of the department’s digital safety logs, ensuring that all storage zones, hazard inventories, and waste disposal tracks strictly adhere to statutory safety regulations (CLEAPSS and COSHH).
  • Work closely with the Lead Technician and teaching faculty to ensure practical lessons run with absolute efficiency and technical accuracy, balancing fast‑paced practical rotations with rigorous equipment maintenance and chemical auditing schedules.

Requirements
  • Proven practical experience working as a technician within a school laboratory, university environment, or industrial science setting.
  • Solid working knowledge of current laboratory safety legislation, COSHH frameworks, and CLEAPSS compliance procedures.
  • Good IT and data management capabilities, with confidence utilizing digital inventory systems and spreadsheet registers.
  • Practical competency across a wide array of technical scientific equipment maintenance and solution preparation workflows.
  • A degree or relevant professional qualification in a scientific discipline is highly advantageous.
