Director, Risk Management

Position Summary

The Director, Risk Management provides strategic leadership and oversight for the organization’s enterprise risk management, safety, compliance, and insurance functions in alignment with the GSUSA national risk management policies/guidelines. This position is responsible for assessing, mitigating, and monitoring organizational risks and ensuring that appropriate policies, procedures, controls, and resources are in place to protect employees, volunteers, members, visitors, property, financial assets, and the organization’s reputation.

The Director, Risk Management oversees risk management administration, risk assessment and compliance, insurance program management, safety and loss prevention initiatives, and organizational risk advisory support. This position serves as a trusted resource and strategic partner to leadership and departments across the organization, providing guidance on risk-informed decision-making, incident response, regulatory and contractual agreements, and the safe delivery of programs and services.

This position is full time with a competitive minimum annualized salary of $79,685.

Essential

Job Duties
  • Lead the organization’s comprehensive risk management program, establishing policies, procedures, systems, and controls that proactively identify and mitigate risks across all areas of operations, and in alignment with GSUSA’s national risk management policies/guidelines.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, managers, and departments on risk management, safety, insurance, compliance, liability and risk-informed operational decision-making.
  • Conduct and coordinate risk assessments for programs, activities, events, facilities, camps, travel, transportation, contracts, partnerships, and other organizational operations, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Manage Council insurance programs (excluding workers’ compensation and employee benefits), including renewals, coverage analysis, certificates of insurance, broker and carrier relationships, claims administration, and evaluation of ongoing coverage needs.
  • Coordinate the reporting, investigation, documentation, and response to accidents, injuries, property damage, safety concerns, insurance claims, and other significant incidents, ensuring appropriate follow-up and corrective action.
  • Monitor and analyze risk, safety, incident, claims, and compliance trends and provide reports and recommendations to leadership to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain safety standards, emergency procedures, business continuity plans, and other resources that support a safe, prepared, and resilient organization.
  • Review contracts, agreements, leases, and other legal or business documents for risk, liability, insurance indemnification, and compliance considerations; collaborate with internal stakeholders and legal counsel as appropriate and recommend revisions or risk mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with leaders and cross-functional teams to integrate risk management and safety considerations into strategic planning, program development, events, facilities, contracts, vendor relationships, and other organizational initiatives.
