Job Description

2026-27 School Year

  • 145 days per year
  • 8 hours per day
  • Position located at Great Beginnings – Paradise Park
  • Monday – Thursday 8:20 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. and the first Friday of each month 8:20 a.m. to 4:20 p.m.

The job of Paraprofessional Specialist was established for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program within the assigned classroom, with specific responsibility for working with at‑risk students one‑on‑one; following educational and specific behavioral plans; documenting students' daily activities, and modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff.

This job reports to the building principal.

Essential Functions
  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
  • Communicates with teachers and a variety of health care professionals (e.g., Speech Therapist, PTs, COTAs) to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
  • Documents students' daily activities for completion of daily logs and hourly activity records.
  • Implements instruction in Life Skills under the direction of the classroom teacher to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Delivers behavioral plans designed by the IEP team under teacher supervision for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions.
  • Maintains manual and electronic files for written reference and to meet mandated requirements.
  • Models appropriate social behavior, including conversation, manners, clean‑up activities, and listening, in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Monitors students' daily schedule and behavior plan for a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs related duties to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the unit.
  • Provides instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher across various subjects to implement IEP goals and aid mainstream classroom integration.
  • Stays with a student at all times to ensure safety, de‑escalate situations, and respond to emergency situations.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

SKILLS: Ability to perform multiple tasks, adhere to safety practices, and maintain accurate records.

KNOWLEDGE: Basic math, reading manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats, analyzing situations, and understanding age‑appropriate activities for high‑risk youth.

ABILITY: Scheduling activities, collecting data, operating equipment, working with diverse individuals, solving problems, and collaborating within a team.

Responsibility

Work under direct supervision using standardized procedures, lead or coordinate others, and operate within a defined budget.

Working Environment

Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and fine finger dexterity. General job composition is 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.

Experience

Job‑related experience is required.

Education

Targeted education that meets the organization’s prerequisite requirements. Must have 60 college credit hours and pass the Paraprofessional test in the State of MO or complete the Missouri 20‑hour Online Substitute Training Program.
