Purpose Statement
The job of Teacher Secondary was established for the purpose of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a secondary teacher with specific responsibility for developing student success in academics or electives; developing lesson plans and delivering group and/or individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues;
and responding to inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.

Reports to Principal
Essential Functions- Administers subject specific assessments, district and/or state tests (e.g. MAP) for assessing student competency and developing learning plans.
- Advises parents/guardians of student progress, communicating expectations and strategies for improvement.
- Analyzes test data and plans instructional responses to enhance achievement.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives, providing feedback to students, parents, administration, and specialists.
- Assists students with post‑high‑school planning.
- Collaborates with teacher teams, staff, parents, business partners, and community resources to improve outcomes.
- Counsel students to improve performance and well‑being.
- Demonstrates required teaching methods for subject-specific assignments.
- Differentiates classroom work and integrates district initiatives such as literacy, diversity, and technology plans.
- Directs paraprofessionals, volunteers, or student workers to support classroom programming.
- Facilitates student learning by integrating technology, arranging field trips, and organizing activities.
- Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
- Integrates district initiatives to increase achievement.
- Maintains confidential and non‑confidential records per guidelines.
- Manages student behavior to create a safe environment.
- Monitors students in various settings to provide safety and positivity.
- Participates in meetings (staff, SAP, department, faculty, conferences, professional development) to gather and share information.
- Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotes, lesson plans, progress reports) to document progress.
- Reports incidents (fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse) to uphold safety.
- Responds to emergencies to resolve safety concerns.
- Responds to inquiries from students, teachers, parents, administrators to resolve issues.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
