The job of Certified Teacher – ELD was established to support the instructional process by serving as an English Language Development teacher. Responsibilities include supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and/or individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with teachers, staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues; and responding to inquiries from students' parents or guardians about instructional programs and student progress.
This position reports to the Principal and/or District ELD Coordinator.
Essential Functions- Administers instructional programs to improve student academic success through a defined course of study.
- Administers subject-specific assessments, district and state tests (e.g., MAP, OLSAT, SAT) to evaluate student competency and develop individual learning plans.
- Provides guidance to parents and guardians about student progress, expectations, achievements, and home strategies for improvement.
- Analyzes assessment data to enhance student achievement.
- Provides feedback on student progress toward objectives, grade-level expectations, and goals to students, parents, administration, and district specialists.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources (e.g., PTA, business partners) to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
- Counsels students and identifies appropriate resources to enhance performance.
- Demonstrates effective classroom and subject-specific teaching methods that meet individual student needs.
- Supports district initiatives to promote a collaborative approach to district goals.
- Differentiates classroom work to provide instructional strategies and materials that support individualized learning.
- Directs paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers to deliver an effective classroom program and meet student needs.
- Facilitates student learning—including field trips, technology integration, tutoring, and creation of a positive learning environment—to achieve academic, interpersonal, and daily living skill goals.
- Maintains confidential and non-confidential records in compliance with administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
- Manages student behavior to maintain a safe and optimal learning environment, following district policies.
- Models appropriate behaviors and responsibilities to demonstrate social and interpersonal conduct.
- Monitors students in various educational settings to ensure safety and positivity.
- Organizes age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to encourage student participation.
- Participates in meetings (e.g., PLC, SAP, staff, collaboration, PTA) to convey and gather information needed for job functions.
- Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records, lesson plans, progress reports, tardy letters, incidence reports) for documentation and mandated requirements.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to inquiries from teachers, students, parents, and administrators to resolve issues and provide information.
- Performs related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Skill in administering assessments, operating standard office equipment, and using relevant software applications.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics (fractions, percents, ratios), reading technical information, composing documents, facilitating group discussions, and analyzing situations.
- Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, regulations, law, age-appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, and behavioral management strategies.
